HINT:

Use a Toyota genuine belt or an equivalent high strength belt when replacing the belt. If a high strength belt is not used, the durability of the belt may be insufficient. A high strength belt is reinforced with an aramid core and is stronger than other belts with a PET (polyester) or PEN (polyethylene naphthalate) core.

PROCEDURE

1. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER ASSEMBLY

3. REMOVE FAN AND GENERATOR V BELT

(a) Release the V-ribbed belt tension by turning the V-ribbed belt tensioner assembly counterclockwise.

(b) Turn the V-ribbed belt tensioner assembly counterclockwise to align its holes, and then insert a 5 mm hexagon wrench to secure the V-ribbed belt tensioner assembly.

(c) Remove the fan and generator V belt from the V-ribbed belt tensioner assembly.

HINT:

PROCEDURE

1. INSTALL FAN AND GENERATOR V BELT

HINT:

When reusing the fan and generator V belt, check the ribs and back of the fan and generator V belt for wear and cracks. If wear or a crack that reaches the core (at more than 1 point) is found, replace the fan and generator V belt.

(a) Set the fan and generator V belt onto each pulley as shown in the illustration.

(b) Turn the V-ribbed belt tensioner assembly clockwise and remove the 5 mm hexagon wrench.

(c) After installing the fan and generator V belt, check that it fits properly in the ribbed grooves. Confirm that the fan and generator V belt has not slipped out of the grooves on the bottom of the pulley by hand.
