REPLACEMENT

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

The necessary procedures (adjustment, calibration, initialization, or registration) that must be performed after parts are removed and installed, or replaced during the transfer case front oil seal removal/installation are shown below.

HINT:

When the cable is disconnected / reconnected to the auxiliary battery terminal, systems temporarily stop operating. However, each system has a function that completes learning the first time the system is used.

    Lane tracing assist system

    Drive the vehicle straight ahead at 35 km/h (22 mph) or more for 5 second or more.

    Pre-collision system

    Stop and start system

    Drive the vehicle until stop and start control is permitted (approximately 5 to 60 minutes)

  • Learning completes when vehicle is operated normally

    • Back door opener

    Perform door unlock operation with door control switch or electrical key transmitter sub-assembly switch.

1. REMOVE TRANSFER ASSEMBLY

4. REMOVE TRANSFER CASE OIL SEAL

(a) Using SST, remove the transfer case oil seal from the transfer case.

SST: 09308-00010

NOTICE:

  • Do not scratch the press-fitting surface of the transfer case oil seal.
  • Wear or damage to the front drive shaft oil seal RH on the transmission side will cause transfer oil leakage.

    If it is worn or damaged, replace the front drive shaft oil seal RH.

5. INSTALL TRANSFER CASE OIL SEAL

(a) Coat the lip of a new transfer case oil seal with MP grease.

(b) Using SST and a hammer, tap in a new transfer case oil seal as shown in the illustration.

Drive in depth (A):

9.5 to 10.5 mm (0.375 to 0.413 in.)

NOTICE:

  • Tap the transfer case oil seal uniformly so that the transfer case oil seal is straight.
  • Do not tap the transfer case oil seal in too far.
